Where to Find the Best Coffee in Lima, Peru

In an article appearing recently in El Comercio, a major newspaper in Peru, reporter Catherine Contreras did a survey of places to get the best coffee in Lima. Here are some of the cafes that were recommended:

Arábica Espresso Bar
Recavarren 269, Miraflores. Su tel: 715- 2152

Located in Miraflores, one of the nicest neighborhoods of Lima, you will get just the right amount of cream in a good espresso - one-third of a cup of cream. Their attention to achieving a quality espresso, using the best Peruvian award-winning coffee - Tunki - makes this espresso joint a top choice.

Aromas & Café

This is a small café in Santa Anita. The owner also uses the top coffee of Peru, which comes from the area of Puno. She will be expanding her selection to the top grades of coffee from other areas of Peru soon. Aromas & Café offers espresso, Americano (drip coffee), and cappuccino.

The Santa Isabel

A traditional coffee shop in the Lima City Center, the Santa Isabel has been serving great coffee for more than 40 years. Coffee here is ground just before brewing and brewed drip style (café estilo Americano) using a carefully measured amount for the right taste. A cup of good hot coffee served along with a special ham and regional cheese sandwich makes this spot a great place to treat your taste buds.

Manhattan Restaurants

In San Isidro and also in Lima Center, these restaurants brew up a tasty cup of coffee using beans from the region of Villa Rica. Known as café Vidurrizaga, this variety is cultivated at an ideal altitude between 1,200 and 1,630 meters (4,000 to 5,000 feet) above sea level in a special biodiverse environment.


The Café Verde

Using a select Peruvian coffee grown at a slightly higher elevation in the Cusco area, coffee here is brewed from choice arabica beans. Using a special filtration process to preserve the nuances of this aromatic vean, the Café Verde will delight your taste buds.

Z Café

This is another choice spot which serves coffee made from Cusco area beans. For a price of 3.5 soles (about $1.40 USD) you can sip a delicious cup of espresso here - and you can purchase coffee in bulk, either "Organic" or "Exportacion" to take with you.
