How much does it cost to travel in Peru?

The cost of traveling in Peru depends completely on what you plan to do and when you want to go.

The cost of an airline ticket from the USA round trip is even quite variable depending on the exact dates. It can vary between under $500 USD to $1500 USD just for the flight.

Once there, the cost of traveling in Peru depends on whether you will be staying in one place, traveling independently, or taking tours.

It also depends on your comfort zone. Do you do well camping? Then you will find cheap hotels (under $15 USD) in most places.

If you need a hotel comparable to the USA, you will pay somewhere near the same price.

If you feel comfortable traveling by bus (bus lines that travel between cities are very comfortable), the cost of traveling in Peru will be very cheap.

The same with food. Find a cheap restaurant that serves almuerzos (lunches) and make that your big meal. Before deciding to eat at a place, wait for lunch time and see if it is frequented by local business people. If it is, then it is sure to have good food and cheap prices.

Again, like anywhere else, the cities can cost up to four times as much as the smaller towns.

In the town where we live, a cheap meal is around $2 USD. Mototaxi to anywhere in the area is max .70 cents USD.

If you live in a developed country, take the cost of traveling for a day and divide it by 1/4 (not including plane tickets) and you should get an idea of the cost of traveling in Peru.
