Day Trip to Machu Picchu?

Is it possible to take a trip to Machu Picchu from Cusco and come back in the same day?

 Day trip to Machu Picchu not reasonable

Here's what your schedule might look like:

You leave Cusco at a little after 6:00 a.m.

The train gets into Aquas Calientes at 10:10 a.m. ... if there are no delays.

You get off and find a place to grab a bite maybe... but there's really not enough time. Then you get a ticket on the bus to go up. If you rush, you can be at Machu Picchu at 12:15 hungry but excited.

Oh-oh.

The train back leaves Aguas Calientes at 3:25 p.m., so you have to leave Machu Picchu at around 2:15.

So to the experience of a lifetime (it is, believe me!) you have allotted 2 hours. It would take at least 8 hours to really absorb it, though. Think about it!

Better spend the night in Aguas Calientes and all next morning at Machu Picchu.
