Can I start a business exporting crafts from Peru?

Yes, you can. However, there is a lot of red tape involved and you, whether foreign or Peruvian, will have to go through a LOT of red tape and may never even be able to really find out what it is you need to do.

The best way to proceed is to find a reputable "tramitero" or expediter who can prove that he is already working with other companies doing similar transactions. Be careful, there are lots who say they know what they are doing and just take your money.

You might go to a company who is exporting a similar product in Peru and ask who they are using for their "tramites." Once you establish a relationship with a reputable expediter, have a legal contract made up by a lawyer (again, find one with a good reputation) stating exactly what you expect and how much you will pay for the results.

Once this is done, you will avoid the unending, repeat, unending and costly red tape that you would go through before even hoping to get permission.
