Cusco (Cuzco) reported a damaged bridge and a lot of mud and debris washed into some sections of town. January is noted for a lot of rain in Cusco and not the best time for a visit. However, there are no further reports at this time that any tourist activities have been affected. Although the strike of air traffic controllers began early today, take-offs and landings continued normally at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport. At the present time, there are no delays in flights in Lima or elsewhere in Peru. A contingency plan went into effect, causing the striking workers to complain that foreigners were being allowed to control flights in and out of Peru. The strike was to last for 72 hours according to the striking controllers.
