Inside-Peru Newsletter, Issue #008 - Chinese Food Earthquake
August 27, 2010

Hello

There have been several earthquakes in N. Peru recently and one centered in Ecuador that shook several towns not that far from here. However, we didn't feel any of them until a small one hit the bullseye.

It was on an overnight trip (see below) during which we stuffed ourselves at two Chinese (Latin American style) restaurants, one in Piura and one in Paita.

In the news has been the plague (not here in Los Organos) and some cases of dengue in the jungle for the moment.

The economy in Peru is supposed to be very strong but that doesn't mean any real difference to most of the population except perhaps in a more positive view of the future economic situation.

Here in this area, people look to the petroleum fields, fishing for jumbo squid, and tourism for their sources of income, none of which provides sufficient work for all at this time.

For traveling or even moving to Peru, though, the situation here is excellent. The roads and buses are better than ever, which is saying ... well, not a whole lot ... but they are improving and we will leave it at that.

With more archaeological finds being made and new attractions becoming accessible, there are even more things to do and see, in fact much more than a person could experience in one year.
